Overview:
Liposuction is a procedure for men and women who want to improve the contour of their body by removing fat. Liposuction can be performed on the neck, arms, chest, tummy, back, flanks, thighs and legs. If desired, this excess fat can be transferred to other areas of the body to increase the size and improve shape.
The Consultation with Dr. Hayes:
During your consultation you’ll have the opportunity to discuss areas of concern and talk about the look that you want to achieve. Dr. Hayes will explain liposuction procedures and discuss whether you’re a good candidate for a liposuction procedure. Some patients may do better with other procedures, such as a tummy tuck. Dr. Hayes will explain all of your options, to help you decide which procedures are right for you.
During the Surgery:
The procedure is performed as an outpatient procedure in a state-of-the-art AAAHC certified operating room. After surgery, Dr. Hayes stays in contact with every patient to make sure he’s available to answer questions that arise.
Recovery:
Most patients return to work/activities within a few days to a week, depending on the physical demands. Swelling after liposuction can take 6-9 months to resolve.
Expected Cost:
The procedure cost varies based on the number of areas being treated and the amount of time spent in the operating room. Please see our pricing page.

Liposuction FAQS:
When can I go back to work?
Most patients return to work after 3-7 days.
Do I need to wear a garment after liposuction?
Wearing a garment after liposuction helps reduce the early post-operative swelling. Portland plastic surgeon Dr. Hayes typically has patients wear a garment for 1-2 weeks and then switch into a lighter garment, such as Spanx, for another 2-3 weeks.
Will I have a good result with liposuction?
Liposuction is a good choice for patients who have areas of diet resistant fat and good skin quality. The skin has to be elastic enough to shrink back after the fat is removed. Patients who have thin skin, stretch marks, or excess skin may do better with a surgical procedure that removes skin, such as a tummy tuck, neck lift, thigh or arm lift. Dr. Hayes will discuss all of your options, to help you decide which procedures are right for you.
Is liposuction enough, or do I need a tummy tuck?
Liposuction can be a great choice for excess fat on the tummy and flanks. However, if there's thin skin, stretch marks, or loose skin, a tummy tuck is usually a better choice because it remove the skin excess that liposuction can't treat. A tummy tuck also tightens the muscular abdominal wall, which liposuction can't do. Women who've had pregnancies typically benefit from abdominal wall tightening. This is also called a rectus diastasis, or "muscle," repair.
