What is a 24 hour Breast Augmentation Recovery?

9/2/2016

How can you recover from a breast augmentation in 24 hours? Dr. Hayes discusses how his patients get back to life, in as little as one day, after breast augmentation surgery.

A 24 hour recovery after breast augmentation means that most patients are back to their day-to-day activities within one day after surgery.

Many women have heard that breast augmentation surgery is painful and that you can't do anything with your arms for weeks. Many women tell me stories about their friends who had a breast augmentation and were told to lay in bed for the first week. They had lots of pain and took strong pain medicine. That's the old way of doing breast augmentation. Fortunately, breast augmentation surgery has changed. A technique developed by Dr. John Tebbetts, in Dallas Texas, has shortened the recovery time significantly. Now after breast implant surgery women are using their arms immediately and are back to most activities the following day.

Details of a 24 hour recovery breast augmentation performed by Dr. Austin Hayes:
  • Breast implants placed under the muscle
  • Virtually bloodless surgery
  • Minimal swelling and bruising
  • Many patients only take ibuprofen
  • Brush your hair, take a shower and go out to dinner the same night as surgery

Common questions about the 24 hour breast augmentation recovery process:

When can I workout?
  • Using your arms: immediately
  • Cardio: 4 weeks
  • Chest exercises (includes planks, yoga, spinning): 6 weeks

How do I decide which implant size to pick?
The most important factor when sizing implants, is working closely with your surgeon in-person to find the implant size that gives you the look that you desire. Careful measurements of your breast and chest wall will help determine which size implants will fit within your natural breast footprint. Taking into account your desired look ("natural" vs "augmented"), and your measurements, an implant is chosen that fits your body.

Should I have saline or silicone breast implants?
The majority of women choose silicone implants. Silicone gel has the most natural feel and is the least likely to develop visible rippling that can be seen through the breast. Breast implants are typically placed under the muscle, so there's another layer of camouflage for the implant. This decreases the chances of visible rippling or a palpable implant edge. During your consultation, Dr. Hayes will discuss the differences between the implants and help you understand how to choose the volume, width, and profile of your breast implant.

Where is the surgery performed?
The surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure. Dr. Hayes performs breast augmentation surgery in Portland.

What about price?
The cost varies somewhat based on the implant that you select (saline versus silicone) and the location of your surgical procedure. The cost for a breast augmentation ranges from $6,700-7,300. See the link for pricing estimates of commonly performed plastic surgery procedures.

How do I schedule my consultation?
Call or email our offices through the contact page on the website. Someone will contact you to schedule an appointment.

What should I bring to my appointment?
During your consultation, you will have the opportunity to try on implants in a bra with clothing. Bring any clothing (blouse, shirt, swimsuit) that you would like to use to try out your new look. You are also welcome to bring photos of breast implant results that you like or dislike.

How to select my breast implant surgeon?
When considering breast implant surgery it's very important to select a board-certified plastic surgeon. After you have selected surgeons that you plan to visit, consider several consultations. It's important that you find a surgeon who takes the time to answer your questions and is someone that you feel comfortable with. Look at the before and after galleries so that you can evaluate their results. Read their reviews, so that you can see what their patients are saying about their experience.
